A few days ago, Alyssa Smith, co-founder of Wren Rescues, was told that four 10-day-old kittens were in need of rescue. The staff at the shelter in Downey, California, was desperately trying to find help for them.

Alyssa told Love Meow, “We only had 15 minutes left and no one could take them in, but luckily a network group rescued the kittens safely and a kind woman named CJ took them to Ventura County, California.”

The kittens were found in someone’s yard with their mother, but she quickly ran away.

Ashley, a foster volunteer, immediately began bottle-feeding them overnight. Jennifer Hart, one of the founders of the shelter, took over bottle-feeding during the day.

“The kittens were obviously well cared for by their mother. When orphaned kittens are brought to the shelter, they usually never see their mother again,” says Alisa. Another important reason why kittens should be left where they were found (waiting for their mother cat) rather than taken to a shelter.

Ashley and Jennifer were all set to keep the kittens until they were weaned, but then something amazing happened.

The resident who left the kittens with them returned home and was surprised to find the mother cat outside looking for her babies. Ashley told Love Meow, “They grabbed the mother cat and took her home.

The next day, the mother cat was taken in by her foster family and reunited with her kittens.

At first, after the ordeal, the mother cat was very shy and refused to come out of her carrier until Ashley brought the kittens to her.

“Once I held the baby over her, she calmed down a lot. We coaxed her out of the carrier,” Ashley said. She immediately went over to the kittens, curled up among them and purred. The kittens all ran to her and began nursing.

This adorable mama kitten was simply blissful, kneading her kittens with her paws as she fed the hungry kittens with milk.

Alisa told Love Meow, “I’ve never seen anything so touching.” I can’t believe how such a miracle happened. To say that this reunion went well would be an understatement.”

The next morning, Ashley woke up to find a friendly mama cat cuddled up next to her, purring.

“As foster parents of newborn kittens, we do everything we can to make sure our foster parents are happy, comfortable, and content,” said Ashley.

“Nothing we do compares to the blissful feeling of a mama lying next to them,” Ashley says.

“She is a patient mother who is filled with gratitude to be home with her kittens. These kittens are the happiest and luckiest.”
